Coal Petroleum & other Distilled Oils

By Abraham Gesner, 1861 Reprinted 2001 184 pages; 5.5" x 9.5"

Abraham Gesner using a distillation process was able to produce clean-burning and relatively inexpensive oil, which he called “kerosene,” that could replace whale oil for lamps.  Gesner published at least two books about his distillation process and his kerosene.  A reprint of the first book documents Gesner’s initial pioneering work in the field.
