Clara Josephine Bankson was the oldest child of Peter and Emma Anderson Bankson of Blood Farm, Cornplanter Township, Venango County, PA.  Clara received a diary was as Christmas present in 1892.  For the following year she faithfully recorded the Bankson household: oil production, farming and household activities.  Her diary describes ordinary day-to-day life in one of Venango County’s prosperous oil region families.
