Education is a high propriety in the Oil Region. Venango College of Clarion University and the Titusville branch campus of the University of Pittsburgh are both located here.
The Oil Region is home to six public and three parochial schools. They serve thousands of students.
Located in the former Pinoak Elementary School on Route 257, this school offers complete education from kindergarten through 12th grade, with an average class size of 11.
Located on Buffalo Street in Franklin, this school has students from kindergarten through eighth grade and is part of the Erie Diocese.
Located on Reed Street in Oil City, this school has students from kindergarten through eighth grade and is part of the Erie Diocese.
Faith Christian Academy is a Christian school for grades K-12. Faith Baptist School of Theology offers Christian college level classes for ministry, missions and teaching. Both are located at 235 Horsecreek Road in Seneca, PA.
Located on West First Street in Oil City, this school has students from ninth through twelfth grade and is part of the Erie Diocese.

Venango College of Clarion University is located on West First Street in Oil City. It was established in 1961 on 62 scenic acres and was the first branch campus in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The campus provides programs for full and part time students who wish to complete the first two years study toward a bachelor’s degree in business, education, psychology and rehabilitative sciences, with the final two years being completed at the main campus in Clarion.
Venango College is responsive to the needs of the community and committed to developing innovative programs that meet the requirements of the local population. Special programs have been designed for young children, academically talented high school students who want to start earning college credits, returning adult learners and older individuals.
Venango College also provides students the opportunity to earn their Bachelor of Science degrees in nursing and radiologic sciences and masters’ degrees in nursing and special education/rehabilitative science.
In addition, the campus offers students the ability to earn an associate degree in one of nine areas:
One-year certificates are offered in nine high demand fields that include both credit and non-credit classes and a variety of professional development and personal enrichment courses are offered.

University of Pittsburgh at Titusville (UPT) is a part of the University of Pittsburgh, an institution with a history of excellence in learning and research for more than 200 years.
UPT boasts faculty and staff of more than 120 persons. The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville (UPT) was established in 1963 in response to a long-recognized need for higher educational opportunities in the Oil Creek Region. Following a successful fundraising campaign, UPT opened its doors in the fall of 1963 with classes being held in McKinney Hall. Joe M. Ball, a University of Pittsburgh administrator, was named the first president and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1986.
