                                    The Oil Region is home to numerous astronomy buffs, enough so that they formed the Venango County Astronomy Club in 1991, which became the Oil Region Astronomical Society. The society built the Oil Region Astronomy Learning Center to further astronomy educa%u019fon for the ORAS members and for surrounding communi%u019fes. They also organize public outreach programs to share their knowledge of astronomy throughout northwest Pennsylvania. ORALC includes the Bruce M. Bedow Memorial Observatory, with several telescopes for sharing observa%u019fons of space, the David L. Jones Ac%u019fvity Buildingwhere educa%u019fonal ac%u019fvi%u019fes are held, and an observing field whose rural loca%u019fon is ideal for viewing the night sky. ORAS members share their passion for astronomy via a number of events and outreach programs including evenings of observing at ORALC, informa%u019fve mee%u019fngs with guest speakers, and the annual AstroBlast, a mul%u019f-day event for learning and observing with fellow astronomy fans.
