                                    M O U N TA I N B I K E T R A I L SIf you prefer dirt, roots, and rocks to pavement, the Oil Region is home to miles of mountain biking trails. Two Mile Run County Park has double and single track and hosts races. Mountain bikes may be used on most roads and trails on the Kennerdell Tract of Clear Creek State Forest (located in southern Venango County) unless otherwise posted. Only Dennison Run Trail is permanently off limits to bicycles to protect this Excep%u019fonal Value watershed. Degree of difficulty varies considerably. H I K I N G T R A I L SThe North Country Trail (NCT) is America's longest Na%u019fonal Scenic Trail stretching 4,600 miles from Vermon to North Dakota. Hikers can travel through this area as the NCT shares the Sandy Creek Trail to the connec%u019fon with the Allegheny River Trail and then south to Parker Landing.Within Oil Creek State Park, 52 miles of hiking, crosscountry skiing, and interpre%u019fve trails lead visitors through areas rich in historic and scenic interest. Discover how the face of the valley was changed with history and reclaimed by nature. There are eleven miles of cross country skiing trails. The 36-mile Gerard Hiking Trail encompasses the en%u019fre park and is marked with yellow blazes while shorter day hikes use the five connec%u019fng loops. Two overnight hikein Adirondack shelter areas are along the trail, but must be reserved.Two Mile Run County Park has more than 30 miles of hiking trails through woods and fields. Stay close to the ac%u019fvity centers of the beach and nature lodge or enjoy the forest with views of the lake. In winter, cross country ski trails are groomed and marked for various levels of exper%u019fse.The Kennerdell Tract of Clear Creek State Forest has anetwork of 35 miles of trails across its 3,200 acre forest land. Hikers can experience different aspects of natural history and human influence including vistas above the Allegheny River and a trail past a stone iron furnace on Bullion Run constructed in the 1840s.37H O R S E B A C K R I D I N G T R A I L SThis region with its natural, scenic beauty and gently rolling woodlands is the perfect se%u01abng for a trail ride any %u019fme of year for horseback riding enthusiasts. Most accommoda%u019fng trails are shared-use so watch for other trail users. Horseback riding is authorized on most State Forest roads and trails, with a few excep%u019fons. The Allegheny Valley Trails Associa%u019fon permits horses alongside the Sandy Creek Trail and Allegheny River Trail, each a mul%u019f-use (bicycle) trail.R O A D R I D I N GRoad riding (and racing) is growing in popularity and the Oil Region is an ideal loca%u019fon for the sport. Within a few miles of town centers and lodging, riders can access hundreds of miles of rural roads in good condi%u019fon with minimal traffic. Hills and sharp grades keep things challenging, making the area a terrific place for athletes to train. Road riding can be a four-season sport here since secondary roads are plowed bare of snow and have less an%u019f-skid material than primary roads.
