What was once the heart of the oil rush has been reclaimed by nature and is now a treasure trove of outdoor recrea%u019fon opportuni%u019fes. Camp, fish, canoe, kayak, picnic, hike, and bike in Oil Creek State Park. Environmental educa%u019fon specialist led programs are offered regularly March through October on a variety of topics ranging from outdoor rec how-to%u2019s to local history to flora and fauna for varying age and skill levels. WAT E R FA L L SVisitors can find numerous waterfalls tucked into the woodlands of the Oil Region. Four are located inside Oil Creek State Park. Pictured here is Miller Falls, which is approximately halfway between Titusville and Petroleum Centre along the Oil Creek Bike Trail. Pioneer Falls (also known as Gregg Falls) is near the ghost town of Pioneer and is easily visible from the Gerard Trail. Boughton Falls is a very nice 35%u2019 waterfall located in the northern end of the park. Plum Dungeon Falls is the highest at 60%u2019, but may disappoint if there has not been significant rain or snow melt.OIL CREEK STATE PARKT R A I L SOil Creek State Park has 52 miles of hiking trails, much of which are the Gerard Trail, and 9.7 miles of paved bicycle trail through the scenic Oil Creek Gorge. Eleven miles of ungroomed cross-country ski trails provide a fun way to explore the park when there is snow on the ground. Two overnight hike-in Adirondack shelter areas are along the trail, but must be reserved. Trailheads are located at Rynd Farm in the South, Petroleum Centre midway, and Jersey Bridge near Drake Well Museum in the north. Trail users may rent bicycles at the park office. Trail maps and addi%u019fonal informa%u019fon can also be found there. H I S TO RYMore than just beau%u019fful scenery, Oil Creek State Park offers lessons in history with relics and interpre%u019fve panels throughout the grounds. The Petroleum Centre Visitor Center has ar%u019ffacts from the oil boom days and displays depic%u019fng life in that %u019fme, including a diorama of the town.
