35There%u2019s no reason to hibernate in the winter %u2014 not when there%u2019s cross-country skiing, sled riding, snowshoeing, and ice fishing. The region%u2019s loca%u019fon in northwest PA makes it subject to occasional lake effect snow cover.Oil Creek State Park has a network of 11.5 miles of cross-country ski trails. There are three main trails: green and blue loops are suitable for beginners or intermediates, and the red loop is designed for those with more experience. There%u2019s a large parking area, compos%u019fng toilets, and a warming hut. There is room elsewhere in the park for sledding and snowshoeing, too.Two Mile Run County Park has five miles of cross-country ski trails. Skis, boots, and poles are available for rent, as are snow shoes. It%u2019s also a favorite spot for sledding, especially since Pioneer Flats is lighted for evening use. Ice fishing on Justus Lake inside the park produces perch, trout, and even a few walleye. The really adventurous, or just plain daring, take part in the Justus Jaunt Polar Plunge each February.
