Venango Campus

Reimagining the Venango Campus

In January 2024, Pennsylvania Western University released a joint statement with the Oil Region Alliance announcing that the university would transfer ownership of its Venango Campus located at 1801 W. First St., Oil City, PA to the ORA. The 2024 Spring semester will be the last classes for the university on the campus.

The Alliance is developing a business plan for the property and considering options for the use of its four buildings (Rhoades Center, including its gymnasium, Frame Hall, including its auditorium, Suhr Library, and Montgomery Hall) and 65 acres of land.

The public will have the opportunity for input with advance notice. Details will be on this page and shared through the media once available.

If you represent an organization that would like to discuss a particular possibility for the Venango Campus, please e-mail jgorman@oilregion.org to schedule an appointment with ORA President and CEO John Phillips or ORA Executive Vice President Debbie Sobina.

Venango County Conservation Hall of Fame

The Oil Region Alliance is pleased to retain the Venango County Conservation Hall of Fame, in the Suhr Library on the Oil Region Venango Campus.

The Venango County Conservation Hall of Fame was created in 2011 by the Oil City Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America. The program honors local men and women who have made significant and lasting contributions to conservation and the environment.

The intent of the Conservation Hall of Fame is to both honor inductees and to ensure that their names and stories will be remembered to inspire future generations.

Eligibility requirements are that a nominated individual be:

  • A native of Venango County, a graduate of a Venango County school, or a long-time resident who went on to do great things in conservation and environmental fields.
  • A Venango County resident whose environmental or conservation efforts had a significant local impact.
  • An individual who may not reside in the county, but their conservation efforts were largely centered in Venango County.
